TIK TOK ON THE CLOCK DJ BLOW MY SPEAKERS UP
TO-NIGHT IMMA FIGHT TIL WE SEE THE SUNLIGHT Monica had just been outside during her free period, soaking up the sun while she could. She learned quickly last year that it indeed was still sunny in September, and that the rain wouldn't start til later. Here she was walking into the school wearing her brand new Oakleys. She was looking great in that high waisted skirt and that sky blue short sleeved oxford. People couldn't help but stare when she was being overly dramatic when taking off the sunglasses and strutting down the hall- heading towards the commons for lunch. What was going through their minds, she didn't know, but as long as she was catching their eyes she knew it was getting the job done.
Bypassing the vending machines Monica went towards the main area with plenty of options. She wrinkled her nose at the stinky soup and almost gagged looking at the oh so healthy greasy pizza offering, and went straight towards the salad fridge. She picked out a chicken caeser salad, grabbed a water bottle and paid. Now came the fun decision of where to sit. How fun. She walked around a little bit, kind of looking lost, there weren't very many people around that she knew. Too many Freshmen and Seniors. Monica really wasn't paying attention to where she was going and SMACK, ran right into someone. Luckily, her salad was in a box and didn't spill, but it dropped to the ground and opened up. Only a few pieces of lettuce were sacrificed. "Whoops! I'm so sorry!" she said before looking to see who it was. She assumed it was a girl, she didn't think a guy would smell like that. She bent down to pick up her food.

Ryann was making her way towards a relatively not crowded table with her salad box and Gatorade in hand when Monica crashed into her. This was what her usual school lunch consisted of, as her diabetic diet didn't allow her to eat certain foods and she wanted to stay healthy. She managed to hang onto her salad, but her Gatorade bottle fell to the floor with a crash. Well, not really a crash, but the sound of plastic hitting something solid and liquids sloshing around inside it. She quickly retrieved her drink and picked up Monica's salad as well. "It's fine," Ryann told the girl as she passed her the salad box, re-closing it as she did so. "Nothing hurt," she added with a shrug, glancing down at her sky blue oxford and khaki skirt to make sure nothing had been dropped on it. That would just be a disaster, now wouldn't it?
Taking note of Monica's Oakley's, salad, and water, Ryann decided that Monica was probably another stuck up prep and allowed a sigh to escape from her lips. She had yet this year to meet another girl who came from a modest background and wasn't a high class snob. Of course, this school year had just started so there was still plenty of time. Maybe her first impression of Monica was wrong, but she got the impression that this girl was just like the rest of the rich girls she'd met. "Where were you headed?" Ryann asked after a moment.

TIK TOK ON THE CLOCK DJ BLOW MY SPEAKERS UP
TO-NIGHT IMMA FIGHT TIL WE SEE THE SUNLIGHT "Alright, that's good," Monica replied when she said she was alright. She took her salad back and muttered a thanks. Monica recognized the girl a little bit, but didn't really know her all too well. Maybe she was in her science class last year? Monica didn't know. She pretty much daydreamed in that class all the time, wasn't really sure who was in it. Nikki was pretty sure she was sophomore too, and normally if she was heading somewhere, now would be the time that she'd say sorry again and book it elsewhere if she didn't know the person. Nikki's been in this situation once or twice before, we'll say. But alas, there still hadn't been a table that she thought was worth sitting at.
Since Monica wasn't just about to rush away, she had the lucky moments to respond to her question. "Actually, no where. I haven't really seen any kids my year around I'd like to sit with,"
she began. There were some loud band geeks she passed but those people weren't really her crowd. It's not like they would've welcomed her either. A lot of her friends came from volleyball and track, and the girls staying in the rooms around hers. Boys, mostly from parties, sometimes classes, and even lunch time. "You know, I could probably sit with some older people though. I'm sure they wouldn't mind. I'm a sophomore, you're one too, right?" It was only then she realized how awkward standing in the middle of the large space, next to a trashcan. Lovely. She slowly started walking towards a somewhat empty table, keeping up with the conversation. Ryann recognized Monica, but she couldn't place her. She had probably had some class or another with her in the past. To answer Monica's question, she nodded. "Yeah, I'm a sophomore," she told her with a shrug as she fell in step beside her. Ryann glanced around, not seeing any other sophomores she recognized at the moment. Most of her friends were people from softball or people who had classes with her. Being very smart, Ryann was in the more advanced classes, so the people in her classes were usually smart as well. Some people would probably consider her a nerd and Monica was probably one of them. "I think we had..." a pause, "Science together last year?" she said, her voice raising at the end to make her statement more of a question.
A few more steps and they reached their destination. Ryann took a seat on the opposite side of the table as Monica, facing her. She opened her salad and poured the ranch dressing over it, smothering it so much you could barely see the green. It was really the only way Ryann was able to force a salad down her throat. All the greens didn't appeal to her very much, but she had to eat healthy so she used the dressing as a way to make it more bearable. "You're on the volleyball team, right?" Ryann asked after a moment. She had been trying to place Monica ever since they ran into each other. Then she remembered seeing her walk around with a few of the girls Ryann knew from softball that were also on the volleyball team. She still couldn't remember her name though. After a few moments deep in thought, she gave up and took a bite of her salad thinking the girl would tell her her name if she wanted her to know.

TIK TOK ON THE CLOCK DJ BLOW MY SPEAKERS UP
TO-NIGHT IMMA FIGHT TIL WE SEE THE SUNLIGHT 'A sophomore... Strange that there aren't many in these parts. Just my luck I ran into her.' Monica put on a grin. "Cool," she said. "Hmm, I think so. Did you have Mourer?" Monica was pretty sure that's where she was from even before she said it, but freshman year passed in a breeze for her, and she was actually surprised how little she remembered of it. Whatever, the past is the past, and plenty of pictures were taken to remember the most important - or embarrassing - moments of the year. She always had the yearbook, too, with all the signatures that crammed the pages.
Monica sat down at the table and first off, squirted her hands with hand sanitizer. She's a germophobe. She'd read somewhere that using the stuff is bad, and makes the germs stronger but she gets freaked out enough that she can't break the habit. She opened her slightly shrunken salad, it wasn't looking as good as it had just three minutes ago. She drizzled a little dressing on it, but Monica relied on the chicken for flavor. The dressing had too many calories, oh, she would know that. She's very conscious of what goes in her body, doesn't want to get fat (she thinks about this constantly), but if she eats too much sugar her coach gets a little angry. Salad was a good choice for her, and she actually was a fan of vegetables as long as she could pig out once a week.
Nodding at Ryann's question, she picked up a napkin and wiped her mouth like a lady instead of licking the dressing off her mouth before replying. "Yeah, I'm on the volleyball team, captain actually,"
she began. "And right now, I feel really silly because I haven't introduced myself. I'm Monica." She looked a little sheepish because she was feeling a tad dim. But it didn't matter. The introduction was over. She didn't offer to shake her hand simply because they were eating, and she always thought informal handshakes were weird, especially when you have to move things around to get to them- in this case, lunch, forks, etc. [/blockquote][/blockquote] TIK TOK ON THE CLOCK BUT THE PARTY DON'T STOP NO! this post was made especially for claire/ryann. it has 360 words according to wordcounttool. here are emma's notes: it's cool, mine are lame too. ;) I'm trying.

Ryann let out a giggle. "Of course, Monica James," she said, realization coming to her. Monica was very popular at Kingswood and Ryann was surprised she hadn't recognized her earlier. She had had science with her last year, after all, and they had even sat right beside each other part of the year. "I'm Ryann," she added after taking a bite of her ranch-smothered salad. "Yeah, I had old Mourer last year. Surprised he didn't retire this year after all the stuff those guys put him through last year," she commented with a grin, referring to a group of crazy boys in their class who had repeatedly pulled ridiculous pranks on their elderly teacher the previous year. Ryann was sure Monica would at least remember a few of those little stunts, even if she didn't remember her.
Taking a swig of Gatorade, Ryann nodded at Monica's other comment. "Right, congrats on making captain!" she said, somewhat enthusiastically. Ryann herself wasn't much of an athlete. JV softball was the extent of her training. She hadn't even dreamed of becoming captain at any point in her high school career. She knew she wasn't good enough for that. Of course, she was well liked on the team, but she was just an outfielder, an easily replaced position. There were plenty of people more worthy of the captainship than Ryann. Now if it came to a Science Bowl or Math Olympiad competition, her coach would have to be crazy not to appoint her captain, but softball was completely different. "Do you play anything else?" Ryann asked her as she closed the salad box and slid it to the side so she could rest her elbows on the table, which was a completely impolite gesture had she not been finished eating. Brushing her bangs out of her face, she glanced around the commons as she awaited Monica's reply.
"What say?" "That's what I thought"

TIK TOK ON THE CLOCK DJ BLOW MY SPEAKERS UP
TO-NIGHT IMMA FIGHT TIL WE SEE THE SUNLIGHT Ryann... Monica vaguely recognized the name but it didn't really ring any bells, DING DING DING! Nope, not happening. At least she was in her class though, that made her feel a little better that she recognized her and completely didn't just not know that she existed. That class was not her strong suit and she really, really goofed off. ". . . Surprised he didn't retire this year after all the stuff those guys put him through last year," said Ryann. Things were clearing up for Monica. She was remembering more by the minute, but Ryann- still wasn't there. She remembered those hilarious boys, for goodness sakes they pulled the funniest pranks! "Oh I know! Maybe he actually knew what was going on and just didn't want to spoil our fun. Personally, I think biology's a drag and it made it fun for me." Monica nodded and picked at more of her salad. The lettuce wasn't as crunchy as she'd hoped and kind of just turned to a gross mush as she chewed, and didn't feel the right consistency.
Partially disgusted, Monica wasn't going to puke, nor was she going to make a completely disgusted face. Ryann had a salad too, and she was pretty sure it was the same kind, just dressed up different. What a lovely way to try and make a friendship- oh, your salad is really nasty because that's what I'm having but oh! go ahead, keep eating it. None of that would be happening, so Monica just sucked it up and ate the limp lettuce. The food should really be better here, my dad paid enough for me to go here the least they could do would be to properly feed me. Pushing away that thought she smiled at Ryann's compliment. "Aww, thanks! I also run JV track. I sprint. Do you play any sports?" she asked her.

Ryann shrugged and took another bite of her salad. Before she could stop herself, her face contorted in disgust the slightest bit, but just enough to allow Monica time to notice. Ryann wasn't sure what her reation would be, but she knew if they were eating the same salad, her's couldn't be much better. Maybe she felt the same way about it. Oh well, Ryann wasn't embarassed. It wasn't like Monica was going to up and leave and never talk to her again because she thought her lunch was nasty. "...Personally, I think biology's a drag and it made it fun for me," Monica had said. Ryann disagreed slightly there, but she wasn't going to say anything about it. "It sure did make the class interesting," she said with a laugh. She started to get another forkful of her salad, but stopped as she was stabbing the lettuce, remembering the taste it had left previously. With that thought, she pushed the box aside with a quick glance up at Monica to see if she noticed.
"Yeah, I play JV softball," Ryann told Monica. "But other than that, I'm not very athletic," she admitted with a shrug to show that she didn't really care. If Monica knew who she was, she would know that sports didn't really matter to Ryann because she had her brain to fall back on. "I usually just stick to the sidelines and cheer the real athletes on," she added as an after-thought. She didn't mean to say that she wasn't a real athlete, but in all practicality, she wasn't. Sure, she played softball, but she batted 8th in the regular lineup and played outfield. Definitely not an all star, to say the least. And it was only JV. Ryann smiled at Monica briefly so the brief silence wasn't so awkward.
"What say?" "That's what I thought"

TIK TOK ON THE CLOCK DJ BLOW MY SPEAKERS UP
TO-NIGHT IMMA FIGHT TIL WE SEE THE SUNLIGHT Monica listened to Ryann and she turned over her salad with her fork, stabbing a leaf a couple times with no success of getting it on the end, and ended up just eating a piece of chicken instead. That wasn't so bad, but with nothing else it was just kind of there. It provided her the flavor she needed for the entire salad to come together but alone it really was nothing special. Two was better than one she supposed. Or maybe some things just belonged together. Like peanut butter and jelly, or Logan Lerman and Selena Gomez. ;)
When Ryann said she wasn't all that athletic after saying she played softball, Monica's first instinct thought was 'How was she so thin!' Then she remembered what they both had been eating, salads. She figured she must eat pretty healthily all the time or eat non-americanized portions or something. She let it go before she responded, and at the same time she decided she was absolutely done with the salad and not going to try and deal with it any longer. She kept it out in front of her, but just set the fork down and set her hands in her lap so she still looked like she might've been working on eating the last little bit.
"Oh, well softball's cool," Monica said. She loved people who played sports, unless they were clearly meant not to play or participate in the sport they claim to participate in. She didn't know Ryann very well, but it probably seemed like a good fit. It wasn't too far out of reach. "And cheering on is definitely great, any sports in particular you like to watch? Or just the typical football, basketball, and baseball?" she asked. That's when she noticed Ryann's salad box was shut and placed off to the side. Well I guess she's done. Monica too, decided to close up shop and turned around tossing away the remains in the trashcan behind her. She wasn't the type to salvage food out of her meal to compost, especially since it had cheese- which they didn't accept. Monica was not going to waste her time picking off every single piece of cheese from the greens. It just wasn't gonna happen.

Before responding, Ryann got up to throw her salad away and then returned to her seat across from Monica. As she took a seat, she felt her insulin pump come to life as it always did after she ate. Ryann was used to it by now, as she had lived with diabetes for over ten years. But the pump she'd only had for a couple years. Her parents had decided it was best she got an insulin pump when she moved to Kingswood so she wouldn't have to give herself shots constantly. It might freak her classmates out. They had said it was best if she had the pump so it would do it automatically. She just had to make sure it worked correctly. But sometimes she felt weird walking around with a pager-like machine always clipped to her clothes. She had recently started clipping it to the inside of her skirt or shorts or whatever type of pants she was wearing at the time so that other people wouldn't see it and ask her about it. It's not that she didn't want to talk about it, she just didn't want them to feel sorry for her or think she was weird because of it. She didn't like feeling like an outcast, but then, who does? Ryann decided that if other people couldn't see it, it would almost be like it wasn't there and it definitely wasn't as obvious.
"I like to watch any sport really," she told her. "Football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, hockey..." she said, pausing between each word. "The only one I don't like to watch is soccer. I've never really been interested in that one. I guess it's because my brothers didn't play it," she said with a shrug. Growing up, Ryann had practiced just about every sport with her older brothers at one time or another. Sure, she wasn't the best at any of them, but she enjoyed it and it was nice to spend time with her brothers. She was there at every single one of their games, no matter what sport they were playing. Ryann was always in the stands with her mother, cheering her brothers on as loud as she could. Because of them, she understood just about every sport and actually enjoyed watching them, unlike a lot of girls her age.

TIK TOK ON THE CLOCK DJ BLOW MY SPEAKERS UP
TO-NIGHT IMMA FIGHT TIL WE SEE THE SUNLIGHT Monica listened to Ryann as well as she could. She tried to be gracious and look as interested as possible, but what she really wanted to do right now was pull out her phone and start texting people. It wasn't that Ryann was boring or anything, it's just she wanted to know what was going on, who she was missing, and where the heck everyone was. Monica (and Ryann, she supposed) couldn't have been the only normal, or cool sophomores with this lunch. She absolutely hated the school rule of no electronics. It was a pain. She usually always got ants in her pants and some days she actually can be good and make it through the whole school day- but the phone always comes out at the last bell. Monica was fighting it hard right now, grinned at each word as Ryann named off sports, and that was that.
"Well soccer can be kind of boring to watch, it's so low scoring! I mean, some games it can only be 1-0, and the goal is scored in the last ten minutes! What's up with that?" Monica began, chuckling and shrugging. She usually just followed some friends around and would always go in a group. If no one wanted to go, she wasn't going to go alone. "Solo" isn't really in her vocabulary. She likes together-ness and teamwork. When she heard that Ryann had brothers, not having any siblings her self she asked, "Oh, how old are your brothers? Did they go here or are they not old enough yet?" She was going to be a good girl and not pull out her phone, so she continued the conversation as she fiddled with the waist of her skirt. It was starting to get a little uncomfortable, but there was still plenty of time before class to fix it later if needbe. Monica listened to Ryann's response and was trying to not tune her out as best as she could.

Ryann understood exactly what Monica was saying about soccer. She laughed along with her when she laughed and stopped when she stopped. That was a pet peeve of Ryann's. When everyone else had already stopped laughing and there was someone still carrying on about the joke or event or whatever that wasn't funny anymore, Ryann just wanted to slap them sometimes. and tell them to get ahold of themselves. Of course she wouldn't actually slap them, but sometimes they made her want to. And don't put it past her to throw them a nasty look.
"My brothers are both older," Ryann told Monica, to answer her question. "They're seniors this year - twins - and they both go here,"she added with a shrug. Cody and Connor weren't that exciting or interesting to her so she was anxious to change the subject. "What about you? Do you have any siblings?" Ryann asked. Returning someones question was always an easy tactic to shift the conversation off yourself and onto the person you're talking to, or at least that's what Ryann thought. It's also a good way to get to know someone, and Ryann obviously didn't know Monica very well.
Ryann fiddled with a piece of hair that had fallen out of its place securely under a bobby pin. She tried to get it back where it had been when she got ready this morning but it wasn't working very well, so she pulled the whole bobby pin out and a section of hair fell into her face. She chuckled slightly, knowing her hair must be in a mess now, and replaced the hair and the bobby pin. It was then that she realized it probably seemed rude to Monica that Ryann was sitting here fixing her hair while she talked. "Sorry," she muttered after a second, trying to make up for the lack of attention she was giving her new friend. But she figured Monica could probably relate to her hair issues, as most girls probably could.

TIK TOK ON THE CLOCK DJ BLOW MY SPEAKERS UP
TO-NIGHT IMMA FIGHT TIL WE SEE THE SUNLIGHT Oooh, seniors. she thought. Ryann certainly wasn't ugly, so she just took a guess and thought that her brothers must be really attractive since they've hopefully made it through the awkward stage. That was on her mind when Ryann asked her question, and it just took her awhile to process it while trying to think of senior guys who kind of looked like her. Unless they were adopted of course, but with the few seconds she had she didn't think about it. "Oh, um, yeah I have two brothers," she began, picturing a family photo they had taken a year or so ago. "One's a freshman here and the other is too little to be in high school," she said, kind of rolling her eyes, probably sounding more annoyed than she meant. Her little brother always tried to get in her business since he was here, the other one was okay since they didn't see each other often. It made him easier to love, and she misses him a lot during the school year. It might seem harsh but it was honest.
"I mean, I love 'em and all, but I guess being the oldest and growing up with two rambunctious little boys that chose to annoy me instead of annoy each other, or even the neighbors... wait scratch that, sorry,"
she chuckled, a little embarrassed. "It's real easy for them to get to me." At this point Monica noticed Ryann fixing her hair. She learned to let it go when people didn't pay attention to you, because she spaces out so often anyway other people must hate her for it. She just closed her mouth, since she couldn't tell if Ryann was listening or not, and didn't really feel like saying anything over again. "Sorry..." she heard Ryann mumble. Monica gave a small grin and said, "Oh, no worries. Hair is hair, it does what it wants and is really just wants attention 24/7... 'play with me!!' 'fix me!!' 'touch me!!' Monica said the last three sentences in a high voice, trying to personify her hair talking as she grabbed the ends and flipped it back and forth at each change. She smiled and started laughing.[/blockquote][/blockquote] TIK TOK ON THE CLOCK BUT THE PARTY DON'T STOP NO! this post was made especially for claire/ryann. it has 369 words according to wordcounttool. here are emma's notes: i felt i should just reply. hah. sorry I didn't follow the list. x)

Ryann laughed at Monica's hair comments. It was definitely true, even if hair couldn't really talk like that. It really did require much attention and half the time it doesn't do what you want it to do. Keeping your hair looking fabulous is a full-time job, especially for teenage girls like Ryann and Monica. "You're exactly right," Ryann said, still chuckling slightly. As her laughter subsided, she added, "It's definitely a full-time job." She liked Monica. Being the same age, it was easy for Ryann to relate to Monica, and probably vice versa. They both had the same problems, such as their current conversation about hair. But Monica seemed really funny and seemed pretty nice so far. Ryann's first impression of Monica was that she was another spoiled rich kid at this school, like so many of the popular people were, but she was really starting to grow on her now. As the silence between them grew, Ryann realized she should probably say something about Monica's brothers. She had actually managaed to listen to most of what she said about them. Her hair hadn't taken up all of her attention. She had at least heard enough to understand that Monica found them both quite annoying, though she loved them anyway. This was the same as it was for most siblings. It's rare to find a family with more than two children in which everyone gets along and everything is always hunky dory. Every family has their problems and struggles they have to overcome. Ryann was pretty close to her older brothers, but they still got on her nerves sometimes. "I know what you mean about your brothers, though. Even though I'm the youngest in my family, my brothers can annoy the crap out of me sometimes. I feel like I just want to smack them in the face and tell them to leave me alone part of the time, but I love them anyway." This was yet another thing she and Monica could probably relate to each other about. TIK TOK ON THE CLOCK DJ BLOW MY SPEAKERS UP
TO-NIGHT IMMA FIGHT TIL WE SEE THE SUNLIGHT "Most definitely!" Monica said, in response to the full-time job comment. Hair was high maintenance, and miss Nikki here definitely paid a lot of attention to it, and was also a boredom filler. Mr. Kuzco totally lame in history? Play with the ends a little instead of taking notes on how his personal life is just a tragedy. She wouldn't dare take out a brush or comb, that'd bring her more attention form the teacher than she needed. The silence grew between the two sophomores and Monica wasn't quite sure what to say. She didn't want to ditch, Ryann seemed pretty chill, so she just looked down at her watch. 'Oh, almost over!' she thought, but Monica really wasn't excited to go back to class. Sitting here at a quiet lunch table with no phone would be better in her opinion.
Ryann talked on the topic of brothers. Not a bad choice, it was relevant. But now, her phone was burning a hole in the hidden pocket of her nice skirt (metaphorically, of course) and she really wanted to take it out. 'Hold off, hold off. Remember what you were just thinking. You would've rather sat here without it than go to class. Stop, stop it!' Monica tried telling herself. She closed and squinted her eyes before she responded. "Yeah, I agree. You gotta care about them and stuff, but they really can be a pain in the butt." It took more than a few seconds for her to realize that she was just being redundant. Well aren't I stupid? Whatever. Monica was cool enough she didn't need to be smart for the people she wanted to like her, to like her. There were enough. Brainy stuff was never her thing anyway, and in a school where you're surrounded by genius's in some of your classes, well, you learned to let go. They like you or they don't.
Monica looked down at her watch and realized there were only a few minutes left before it would be time to get up and go, but if anyone needed a little extra time, maybe to take a locker stop or go to the bathroom and then make a trek across campus, it was always smart to leave early. "Hey, what class do you have next?" she asked Ryann. She honestly hadn't paid attention yet who was in what class since it was all so new. It's not like there were only ten kids per class where you had to know everyone. Monica thought that if they were headed to opposite sides of the building, this could be a catchya later kind of thing, or maybe they could walk together as she looked around for her sophomore pals.
TIK TOK ON THE CLOCK BUT THE PARTY DON'T STOP NO! this post was made especially for claire/ryann. it has 457 words according to wordcounttool. here are emma's notes: long, we should be able to finish up in the next few posts i'd say?
