It was game night. Well, football game night. Not her game night. Kasey always loved to go to football games, cheering players on, and hanging out with her girls. She thought she loved it so much just because she loves it when other people come and cheer her on when she plays her sports. But really, it's just an excuse to get away from anything else. Even though it was really early on in the year, she had a pile of homework sitting in her book bag at home that would take a while to get done. Would she finish it all? Probably not if it's not at the top of her checklist this weekend. It would be a joy trying to explain to her new teachers why she hadn't been able to complete her assignments so early in the year. They'd figure out it was a trend, but when it came to test time she always had a good tutor and borrowed notes to compare to hers to see what she missed while at a soccer match or cross country meet, or when she was sleeping because she's so deprived. At least she has her own bed with her own family, in her own house. That helps. Kingswood swept the opposite team from under their feet, and it wasn't pretty for them. Kasey's school's team won 43 to 6. It was pretty impressive, she thought. Now it was probably time for her to get home and cracking on that homework, but as soon as she saw all the people get in their groups to go to their respective victory parties, and the freshman back to their dorms (because most have no clue what goes on), she decided to tag along with a pal to one. Where she was going? She hadn't a clue but she just followed her friend and made sure she didn't get lost. At first, Kasey thought they were going to head into town and sit down at the diner to meet football players, but since this was a varsity game, she thought it unlikely. Two sophomores crashing a senior meal? Not ideal. She was relieved when she saw her turn down the sidewalk and head across the street towards the beach. Much safer. She'd be more likely to know people there anyway. Kasey'd at least been to a party on the beach before. Kasey's friend seemingly disappeared in to the crowd and she was left alone. Fantastic. At least she had her cell phone, and her brother was just a phone call away with his car... Or maybe he was here somewhere. Kasey looked up at the sky for a moment , the stars were just deciding to come out. They were always so stunning, and you could see them really well from this town. She looked down and shrugged, then looked around for someone she knew, or maybe someone new? to strike a conversation with. |
