Tamsin sat at a little table in the corner of the school's extensive library. All of her school things were spread out in front of her. Notebooks, textbooks, pens, scattered across the surface. School had only been in session for two weeks and she already was loaded down with tons of homework. She was used to the pressure though and her grades were exceptional. Her mother and father would kill her if she returned home with unacceptable marks. Tamsin was a smart young women but for some reason, her head just wasn't in her work. So, like a lot of young people, she procrastinated on every assignment, putting it off until the day before, leaving a mountain of homework to be done. Tams was currently trying to complete a precal assignment, which was her least favorite subject. There was nothing exciting at all about a bunch of numbers and formulas.
Tamsin allowed her blue eyes to wander around the huge library. There were a few students either reading or, like her, trying to make their way through an overwhelming ammount of work. She caught a few eyes of some fellow students she knew and waved. Her eyes continued to roam around the room. The library wasn't where she spent a lot of her free time. Tams did enjoy reading but preferred to do so outside in the sun or curled up under the covers in her bed. The house she lived in off campus was just a little too empty for her today, so she had decideed to venture out to the library. Tamsin let her eyes settle on a large window that took up a good portion of one of the walls. The sun's rays were falling down, gently settling on the manicured lawn outside. It was pretty such a pretty day. It made her miss the amazing summers she spend in Greece with her parents. Warm summer days, spending hours laying in the sand tanning, letting the waves lap against her legs. She could always walk a short distance across the way and be at one of California's most beautiful beaches but it wasn't the same. Maybe later, if she got all of her homework done, she would take that walk across the roads and spend some time in the sand and surf. She smiled at the thought and tore her eyes away from the window, scanning the rest of the library to see if anyone else she knew was present.

Daniel entered the library slowly, reluctantly. He wasn't one to study much. He got by in class with A's and B's, though mostly the latter. Most of the time, he could charm his teachers into giving him extra time on his assignments or assigning the class less work. He was in good standing with a lot of other students because of this. Today, however, he was forced to come to the library to get a little studying done in the peace and quiet. His teacher, Mr. Parton, hadn't fallen for his charm and manipulative manner, so here he was. The library was a particularly unfamiliar territory to Daniel. When he needed to study, he usually just used his notes (or borrowed someone else's). If notes didn't cover it, he simply went to the Internet. Good old Google always worked out for him. He didn't read for fun, so there was really no need for him to ever take advantage of the thousands of books covering the shelves in his schools' extensive library.
The topic he was forced to cover in his studying today was the War of 1812, as Mr. Parton was the U.S. History teacher. His test wasn't for another couple of days, but he figured it was good to get a head start on the studying since he had been using this first period class as a time to catch up on his sleep and paying no attention whatsoever to Mr. Parton's continuous rambling. Plus, he was sure he'd have better things to do in the next few days than study some war that took place two hundred years ago. And even if he didn't, he was sure he could convince himself he did. What was one test, anyway? People failed tests all the time and were still able to graduate. Granted, he probably would be disappointed in himself when he got the test back with a big, fat F at the top of the page. But so what? He could take one bad grade in exchange for a good time. When you thought of it like that, it didn't sound too bad. But, as always, his conscience got the best of him and he ended up here today, in one of the most boring places on earth.
Looking around, he figured it wouldn't hurt to sit around someone he could talk to. It would at least make his study hour a little brighter. On the other side of the library, at a little table in the corner, he spotted Tamsin, friend of his in his grade. The only other people he saw were nerds who probably spent most of their free time here. Daniel quickly changed the direction he was walking in and headed straight for Tamsin. When he reached her, he took a seat and set his books on the table before speaking. "Hey," he said simply, flashing her one of his famous, charming grins that girls usually found so very attractive.

Tamsin had returned her gaze to her precal homework, half hoping they had worked themselves out on their own. She sighed when she saw the same problem she'd been working on was still unsolved and as iritating as ever. She flipped through the pages of her textbook, trying to see if she had missed anything. Her blue eyes scanned quickly over the steps and then switched back to her paper. Tamsin rolled her eyes and erased half of the problem, having realized her mistake. She quickly went through each step again, including the one she missed this time, and was finished with the annoying assignment. With a smug grin on her face, Tams slipped the paper into her book and closed it, glad to be rid of that particular assignment. She then turned to her next and favorite subject, History. Tamsin had a knack for remembering dates and certain events throughout history. The subject interested her far beyond any of the others, except maybe english. Learning about the past and how it shaped the present sort of blew her mind.
As she was pulling her book from her bag, a familiar voice reached her ears. A flirtatious grin spread slowly across her pink lips as her bright blue eyes flicked up to meet his. She had Daniel had been friends since their freshman year at Kingswood. The two of them had bonded over their shared love for America's favorite pastime. Tamsin had always flirted shamelessly with Daniel, he was one of the hottest guys here at Kingswood afterall. Not to mention the fact that she was slightly crushing on him but honestly, she would have been a fool not to. He was athletic, more than attractive, and had a personality that meshed well with her own. The two of them had always got along rather well.
"Hey yourself." She said in reply. Tamsin gathered up a few of her items that had strayed across the table and stacked then neatly by her bag, so as to give him more space to work with. Her eyes landed on the book he had brought, which was the same as the one she had been flipping through. "I see i'm not the only one who procrastinated on studying for Parton's class. Makes me feel a little better knowing you did as well." Tamsin said with a smirk.

Daniel made sure he was situated and comfortable (well, as comfortable as a person can be in those hard school chairs) before answering Tamsin. Kicking back, he rested his hands behind his head and smiled at his friend. "Yeah, procrastination is my middle name. You should know that by now," he replied with a grin. Like most high school students these days, Daniel found plenty of things he considered "better" than doing assignments on a weeknight. Especially history assignments. History had never been a strong subject for him. Sure, he knew the saying history repeats itself, but there were people for that. Why did he need to know who did what thousands of years ago? They all died anyway. That was Daniel's philosophy, at least. He just found the subject boring and quite frankly, he didn't care a thing about it. It wasn't the least bit interesting to him. If he could take another math instead, he probably would simply because he'd rather work out math problems than read some boring book about a dead guy. But no, U.S. History was required for all juniors.
Tamsin and Daniel were really good friends. They'd immidiately hit it off as freshmen and carried that same bond through the years since then. By now, Daniel knew a lot about Tamsin and that included that history was her favorite subject. She and Daniel disagreed there, but there were many other things they had in common. For example, they were both very popular students at Kingswood, probably the two most popular juniors. They also both enjoyed playing baseball/softball and were captains of their varsity teams. Over the past two years, Tamsin had grown on Daniel. He liked hanging out with her and spending time with her, sometimes more than he did his other friends. Their friendship hadn't really changed, but they had gotten a lot closer and Daniel found himself liking her more and more. Maybe he even had a crush on her. Daniel thumbed through his book casually, not really reading any of the words. "I really don't understand how people do this all the time," he said, his eyes moving from the page before him to Tamsin. "I can't even stand it for five minutes." Daniel rolled his eyes and over-exaggerated a sigh.

"Daniel Procrastination Williamson..you're right it is fitting." Tamsin flashed a wide grin that reached all the way up to her bright blue eyes. A small giggle escaped her lips as she sat father up in her chair, pulling her eyes away from her close friend's handsome face and placing them back on her history book. Studying had been put on the back burner for the first week, seeing as most of her evenings had been spent on the beach, in her friend's dorms, at practice, or preparing for a club meeting. Things always slowed down and everyone fell back into the same routines but Tams was always super busy until then.
History had always been her favorite subject, handsdown. Remembering dates, times, names, and places came easily to her and she loved the fact that some of the most innovative and outrageous ideals had come from the U.S. Boston was full of historical sites and culture. Growing up there, as well as in Greece, Tamsin had been submerged in it almost every day. Her love of History was not shared by Daniel, however.
She knew he would prefer to do almost any subject, so long as it had little to do with reading or historical lessons. He even preferred math to history, which always made Tamsin shake her head. The pair had a lot in common though. Popularity, partying, sports, and coutless other hobbies were shared between the two of them. Tamsin and Daniel could often be found together at the heart of a party or just hanging out around town or school. He was so easy to talk to and made her smile. Tams had come to the realization that she felt a deeper affection for Danny than just friendship but could never be sure how her flirty friend felt. Tamsin had been reading through her book, her blue eyes moving across the pages taking in the information that would be on the test. She could hear him flipping quickly through the pages of his book and knew his attention span was failing him. She smirked and looked up at him when he spoke, chuckling at his dramatic antics. "You do realize that if you spent less time complaining and more time studying we could be at the beach right now, unless you had other plans later?"

Daniel was quiet for a moment, something unusual for him. "Well," he hesitated. "It doesn't quite have the ring to it I was going for." Daniel looked back up at Tamsin, his blue eyes meeting hers. For a moment, he held her gaze, though he returned his eyes to his book quickly after with a chuckle. He read a sentence in his book before sighing again. "The War of 1812 was a military conflict fought between the forces of the United States of America and those of the British Empire." He couldn't help but think about the other things he could be doing right now that didn't involve reading. Daniel didn't mind studying something he liked. He could easily review math problems and concepts or read about the scientific laws and theories. Those things interested him. History did not.
"I'll have to check my schedule and get back to you," he said with a smirk, making sure she was watching him as he spoke. After waiting a brief second, Daniel chuckled and spoke again. "But if you really want me to go, I guess I can get out of whatever I've got going on." To answer her comment about studying instead of complaining, Daniel simply shrugged and stated that the latter was much easier. It's not that Daniel didn't like work. He was a hard worker. But only if he knew he would get something out of whatever it was he was working at. Supply and demand, he liked to think of it. He's supply the work, but demand something in return. What was he going to get out of reading a history book? A good grade on the test was one thing, but he didn't think of it like that. He only saw the negatives of studying. Maybe that was just his stubborn nature kicking in. He was confident that knowing dates and events from two hundred years ago would get him no where in life and nothing was going to change his mind.
Daniel slammed his book shut and leaned forward to rest his arms on the table. He studied Tamsin. She seemed like she was in a good mood, which is always a good thing. But Tamsin was almost always in a good mood, especially around Daniel. He'd hardly ever seen her mad or upset. If she was, she hid it well. Daniel, on the other hand, was terrible at hiding his emotions. When he was pissed off, everyone around him knew it. Today, though, he was in a slightly indifferent mood. At first, he was mad that he had to study, but Tamsin being there helped ease his anger quite a bit. He was just glad he had someone to hang out with to make it less boring. And he was also glad it was her and not some nerd who would make him study regardless of what he wanted to do.
